About two months ago, my husband and I adopted a cat! His name is Catty Beniers aka Benny, and he is an awesome addition to our household. Just look at how cute he is!

Benny is our first cat together, so we had to go on a shopping spree for all kinds of fun cat toys. Dogs definitely get the bulk of the fun and exciting toys at the pet store, but there’s still some variety for our feline friends! But, of course, it’s not just the pet-parents whose opinions matter on toys, but the actual cat! So I will be rating the toys we purchased for Benny, and giving his inferred rating as well. Toys are ordered from Benny’s least-favorite to favorite.

Track Toy
I personally love the Petstages Tower of Tracks. I think watching the balls move around the tracks is fun, it makes fun sounds, it’s just endless loops of excitement. Unfortunately, Benny doesn’t really feel the same way. He’s given it at most a few lackluster paws over its lifetime in our house. Not everything a pet parent does will be a success, I suppose.

Mice Cat Toys
The Skitter Critters Value Pack is essentially a bag of tiny plush mice that serve as a great distraction if you want Benny to go somewhere else for at least ten seconds. Occasionally they will hold his attention for longer, or suddenly regain his attention once he spots them again, but they’re not as long lasting or exciting as the other cat toys on this list. They’re pretty cheap and you can buy them in bulk, but also be prepared to lose them under every piece of furniture you own.

Light up Mouse
The PETLIBRO automatic mouse is a cool cat toy in concept, but fails in practice. The wheels don’t get good traction on carpet, and the mouse’s form factor is too small – it will get lost within five minutes of it being on. It’s not an if it’s a when. And because it gets tangled in small cables easily, Benny also loses interest fairly quickly. Hopefully you can find the flashing fiber optic tail before the battery dies, else you’ll just have to wait until you manage to notice that it got stuck under the exercise bike.

Laser Pointer
The laser pointer is a timeless classic for cats. The mysterious shining dot that disappears and reappears at will – it does sound kind of captivating, right? Benny appreciated the laser pointer, and I did too, until he knocked it off of the table some weeks ago and I haven’t seen it since. When it reappears from its inter-dimensional journey, I’m sure it will be a hit again. But until then, I’m taking a half star off for it’s small rollable form factor.

Flappy Duck
The Potaroma Flapping Duck Toy is so cute! It’s a soft duck outside with a plastic inside frame. After you charge it up, if you give it a whack it’ll flap its wings and quack a bunch. Benny chased this duck quite a bit at first, but now he’ll also kind of hold it in a death cuddle. He won’t play with it as long as others on this list, but he does still appreciate it.

Here’s an example of Benny’s adorable death cuddle:
Feather on a stick
The Cateness Cat Wand Toy serves as an alternative to our top choice. It turns out Benny loves feathers for whatever reason, and will attack them gleefully at all times. The feathers at the top make this toy a hit. The only con with this one is that the stick is somewhat short, and you have to be very close to the play area at all times – this can be dangerous if you’re not paying attention where the claws happen to land. The feathers on the Cateness toys specifically have actually stayed on really well, which is saying something, as Benny is a destroyer of toys.

Rolly toy
The Bentopal Automatic Cat Toy is the cat’s meow. Once you turn it on, the wheel wells light up, and it spins its tires so that it darts off into random directions. The tires will suddenly stop, and spin, causing the feather to flip up and down and spin around, and whack off all the furniture legs in the house. It causes a ruckus, which serves as a great distraction when I want Benny to stop jumping on all the tables. It also works well on both our carpet and our hardwood floors.
It will auto turn off after a few minutes, and also turn back on after some amount of time. This makes it a great long term distraction as well, perfect for working from home or when we leave the house for a longer amount of time. This also means the battery won’t instantly drain after an hour play session. Really just an all-around solid cat toy.

Fishing rod
And last, but certainly not least, the Jiaron Feather Toy is Benny’s favorite toy by far. Whatever we attach to the end of the fishing line, he will go crazy for it (especially the wiggle worms!). Benny has learned to grab the lure, and then run straight in one direction until he lets go, causing the string to snap back and fling itself in the other direction. Which, of course, he races after at maximum speed. He will do this for hours. Not an exaggeration, literal hours. We’ve taken to shoving the handle of the fishing rod into the couch cushions to give ourselves a break from the non-stop play.
The only problem is that the lures are a bit fragile, especially with the crazy stresses that Benny puts them under. But they’re pretty cheap, so you really can’t go wrong if your cat loves chasing feathers and wiggle worms as much as Benny does.

Conclusion – Cat Toys
Was this post just a reason to post a bunch of pictures of my cat to the internet? Of course it was. (Follow him on Instagram, and then follow me on Instagram!). But hopefully it will give cat parents some ideas for new toys for their furball! Tell me in the comments – what toy is your cat absolutely obsessed with?
